Tom Phoenix
Who or what is Tom Phoenix? I like to think it is more than just a person or band. It is a concept. What that concept is totally depends on the person contemplating it. It can be an idea like "Get outside yourself". It can be a vision of how we want things to be. It can simply be a carefree lifestyle.
The mythical phoenix is a bird that rises from the ashes anew and life is tabula rasa (Greek for clean slate) where nothing in the past can hinder you nor hold you back in any way. You are free to live anew again and reinvent yourself and your world with no laws, no limits, and no ends/boundaries. We become as if born again.
I like to think of Tom Phoenix as all of us who seek to reinvent ourselves and be free.
And, yes, sure, Tom Phoenix was briefly several bands fronted by Tom Strubbe. He is still an Austin musician and plays in Austin rock bands now and again when he can get a gig with some good musicians.
